Elk NetworkBiologist Remove Antlers From Elk After Freeing From Fence

A bull elk lost its headgear but it least it will live to see another day. Biologists with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife tranquilized the animal after it got tangled up in a fence about 25 miles southeast of Portland.

They made the decision to cut off its antlers because of the amount of stress on the bull when they sedated it. They also placed an ear tag on it before it came to and ran free.

According to biologists, the elk will realize very quickly that it does not have anything to defend itself or push with, and will likely remain around the edges of the herd this season until its antlers grow back for the next breeding season.
