In 2025, RMEF completed 200 hunting heritage projects in 36 states, helping to ensure future participation in the sport as well as future contributors to conservation. One of these projects was headed up by Hands of a Sportsman in Anson County, N.C., when the group hosted 30 youth and their families last December for a mentored deer hunt.

Each hunter/family was provided a guide for the day that assisted with safety, harvest and cleaning animals. Breakfast and lunch were provided. Hunters traveling from out of town received assistance with overnight lodging. Hands of a Sportsman hosted young hunters from a wide range of backgrounds, including some from single-parent homes and others with physical challenges that required adaptive equipment.

It was a successful day with hunters taking 20 deer as well as a wild pig and a coyote. RMEF volunteers helped with the hunt and RMEF grant funds contributed to event expenses.

Hands of a Sportsman reported that the highlight of the event was the joy and sense of accomplishment enjoyed by these young hunters and new participants. RMEF is committed to supporting a community of hunters of all ages. Hunting heritage events like these are an important part of engaging multiple generations of hunters and conservationists.
