Elk NetworkWildlife Officials Monitor ‘Festive’ Elk

It’s quite a festive sight. An adult bull elk is walking the streets of Canmore, Alberta, with a set of Christmas lights wrapped around its antlers. Wildlife officials are aware of the situation but are not acting because the animal moves freely and can still find feed.

“Elk typically shed their antlers in the winter, and we expect once the elk drops its antlers in a month or so, the lights will go with it,” Ina Lucila, Alberta Justice and Solicitor General spokesperson, told Rocky Mountain Outlook.

Wildlife officials urge homeowners to remove lights, hammocks, soccer goals and any other items that may cause issues for wildlife.
