A couple enjoying a scenic drive through the Great Smoky Mountains stumbled across quite the scene and they captured it on video.
Tim and Dusty Bingham saw an elk calf nursing on a cow elk as the two animals stood in the middle of a bubbling mountain creek.
“We have seen the elk many times passing through but never before have we witnessed an elk with her baby,” they told WBIR-TV. “The beauty of nature is truly captured in this video!”
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation assisted with the successful introduction of wild, free-ranging elk to their native range in the Great Smoky Mountains in 2001.
