Elk NetworkSenate Bill Seeks to Expand Hunting, Other Outdoor Recreation

Conservation | December 25, 2017

U.S. Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) introduced legislation on December 18, 2017, that will expand opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking and other wildlife-dependent activities in Montana, Colorado and across the country.

“Access to quality wildlife habitat remains one of the most important challenges facing hunters. Programs like this allow conservation organizations, state agencies and private landowners to work together to provide hunters access to lands offering opportunities for harvest,” said David Allen, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation president and CEO. “This is critical for maintaining interest and participation in hunting.”

The Voluntary Public Access Improvement Act would reauthorize and strengthen the Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program (VPA-HIP) by increasing funding from $40 million to $150 million over five years.
