In an effort to help wildlife managers better understand elk movement and distribution in Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recently unveiled a new online tool for reporting elk sightings.

There are currently three localized elk herds elk herds in northwestern Minnesota, one north of Grygla and the others in Kittson and Roseau counties. The tool allows people to report an elk observation anywhere in Minnesota.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has a long history assisting elk and elk habitat. Since 1990, RMEF and its partners completed 217 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects in Minnesota with a combined value of more than $5.1 million. These projects protected or enhanced 79,431 acres of habitat and opened or improved public access to 943 acres.
