Elk NetworkResearchers Find CWD Proteins in Deer Semen

Conservation | January 24, 2020

Scientists seeking to find answers surrounding chronic wasting disease found the proteins that cause the wildlife disease in the semen of white-tailed deer.

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, researchers from the University of Texas, Colorado State University and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found CWD-positive results in nine of 21 samples taken from deer farms across the United States.

They are yet to determine if the transmission of CWD takes place via sexual contact so they plan to carry out additional studies.
