Elk NetworkOregon Police Seek Elk Poacher

General | April 6, 2018

Authorities in Oregon say someone shot and killed a bull elk in the northwest part of the state, snapped off its antlers and then left the carcass to rot. Now they need your help to find those responsible.

It happened west of Silver Falls Stake Park.

Oregon State Police determined it was a large, branch antlered bull. Troopers believe the perpetrator(s) shot the elk with a high-powered rifle over the Easter weekend, sometime between Friday, March 30 and Sunday, April 1. They removed a bullet from the carcass. They also say the antlers were broken off near the base so as to appear somewhat like a naturally shed antler.
