To ensure the future of elk, you need a solid understanding of elk. That is why the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation allocates funding each year to support research.
One such ongoing project in northwest Montana seeks to gather information that predicts how hunting, carnivores and habitat may influence elk populations. In doing so, researchers monitor habitat conditions, hunter access, elk distributions and carnivore abundance to develop a framework for improving elk management across the state.
RMEF provided funding for the study. In conjunction with it, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released the above video that shines a light on the elk forage assessment portion of the study.
