A man shot and killed a grizzly bear after it broke into his garage near Hebgen Lake in southwest Montana. The bear was trying to get to a hanging elk carcass.
The man said he heard a noise coming from the garage, went to the front porch with a gun to see what was happening and saw the bear a mere 10 paces from him.
“We have a pretty clear case of self-defense here,” Andrea Jones, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) spokesperson, told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
An investigation determined there were paw prints around the man’s property including on his living room window. FWP also found the garage was secured properly even though the grizzly broke through a metal door.
