Elk NetworkIN SEARCH OF PENNSYLVANIA ELK CALVES – AN RMEF FILM

General , RMEF Films | December 5, 2024

Call it a game of hybrid hide and seek thanks to eye-in-the-sky modern technology combined with good, old-fashioned eyes and boots on the ground. Dozens of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation volunteers join forces with Pennsylvania Game Commission staffers in search of newly born elk calves. What results is a means for biologists to better estimate the health and sample size of the newborn population coupled with an “impactful and awe-inspiring” experience for those of all ages who have long supported RMEF’s mission.

Follow along in the search for elk calves in the Keystone State.

PENNSYLVANIA PROJECT HISTORY SUMMARY

Since 1991, RMEF and its partners have completed 569 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects in Pennsylvania with a combined value of more than $29.2 million. These projects conserved or enhanced 29,449 acres of habitat and opened or improved public access to 10,838 acres.

RMEF is working with PGC to close phase II of the project, which would add an additional 1,739 acres to State Game Lands 14, in 2025. Doing so will create a contiguous link of more than 21,500 acres of PGC-managed public access acres previously separated by the Goetz Summit property.
