Elk NetworkGear 101 – Browning X-Bolt Hell’s Canyon Long Range McMillan

Gear 101 | April 26, 2021

Already known for setting the industry benchmark in bolt-action design, the X-Bolt Hell’s Canyon Long Range McMillan model is no ordinary X-Bolt. Browning engineers placed the proven X-Bolt action into a McMillan Game Scout stock, battled-tested and proven durable by the U.S. Marines Corps.

The McMillan Game Scout is a sportsman-style stock with tactical long-range features such as a medium-sized forend with a straight comb butt stock that offers the shooter a platform so stout and solid, it allows you to have full concentration to attain maximum precision and accuracy.

Among other things, that translates to a smooth transition for shooters used to a tactical stock but prefer more of a compact hunting stock.

Other highlights include a comfortable vertical pistol grip with thumb shelf and texture panels that give it a grippy and confident feel.

And it’s coated with an exceptional A-TACS  A-U or arid-urban camo pattern, exclusive to Browning.

A tough, durable and attractive Cerakote burnt bronze finish coats the action, extended bolt handle, trigger, trigger guard and free-floating, heavy contour fluted barrel. The 26-inch barrel features 5/8ths inch-24 TPI suppressor threads and is capped off with the all-new recoil hawg muzzle brake that reduces recoil up to 73 percent. When combined with the Pachmayer Decelerator recoil pad, it will make your .300 win-mag feel like a .243.

Other standard features include quick-detach cups for a sling, a swivel stud for a bipod, a 20 MOA Picatinny rail, a crisp, three-level Feather Trigger, X-Lock scope mounts featuring four screws instead of two, a bolt unlock button for an added measure of safety, a fast cycling short 60-degree bolt lift, detachable rotary magazine and Inflex technology that provides a direction deflection of recoil forces.

It also comes in the brand-new 6.8 Western Cartridge – which Winchester touts as the ultimate do-all cartridge for big game hunting.

All that translates into a better rifle for elk hunting and recreational shooting. Available in a wide range of calibers, you can shoulder the X-Bolt Hell’s Canyon Long Range McMillan for an MSRP ranging up to $2,400.
