Researchers say it’s more important than ever to get more controlled fire on the landscape.
“Science tells us these are fire-adapted ecosystems and we have to get fire back on the ground, and that’s a key strategy for mitigating future fire and also for the long-term resilience of those ecosystems,” Courtney Schultz, Colorado State University professor of natural resource policy and governance, told KUNC radio.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation supports prescribed fire as a means to improve both wildlife habitat and overall forest health.
