Help is on the way for elk dealing with the aftereffects of a tough winter and huge amounts of snowfall. The government is offering $40,000 to purchase hay which will be distributed through the region as part of an emergency feeding effort.

“I have hunted here for almost 25 years and I know our elk and deer numbers are down,” said Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett told BC Local News. “With ungulate populations already weakened by too many predators, we need to do everything we can to hold on to the elk and deer that are struggling.”
