Today, the Bosque Del Oso State Wildlife Area boasts 30,000 acres of prime hunting opportunity, stellar elk winter range and some of the biggest bruiser bull elk in all of Colorado. Rewind to the mid-1990s, and that same land in the Upper Purgatoire River basin almost ended up a subdivided mess. Thanks to decisive action carried out by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and others, the landscape remained intact and even today is available for all to access and enjoy.
