It is a heartbreaking sight—a newborn fawn in a dog kennel. That’s where the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) placed the baby deer for transportation after receiving a tip and taking possession from someone who removed it from the wild.
“This truly is an unfortunate situation for this deer fawn. Instead of living a life in the wild, it must now remain in captivity due to the irresponsible actions of one person,” said Mike Demlong, AZGFD Wildlife Education program manager.
The approximately three-day-old deer had to be hand-fed every three or four hours until it was strong enough to be transferred to a wildlife nature park.
Wildlife officials constantly call on the public to leave wild animals alone. If you come across newborn wildlife, its parents are usually nearby. Leave them alone.
