Scouting America’s Conquistador Council, which serves families and communities across seven counties in southeastern New Mexico, received a significant archery equipment upgrade this year through RMEF support. The Council was awarded an RMEF grant that helped purchase 10 Genesis compound bows, Easton XX75 Genesis arrows, five bow and arrow range stands, 10 portable bag targets and five mobile backstops. Thanks to the grant, the Council was able to completely replace its aging archery gear with new, youth-appropriate equipment designed to improve both training quality and user safety.
The new equipment was first used at the Council’s Annual Cub Range Day, which provides Cub Scouts ages 5 to 11 with foundational training in range and target activities, including archery and BB gun shooting. This year, more than 40 youth participants attended the event to develop their marksmanship and outdoor skills. The range day was supported by RMEF volunteers from the Lea County Chapter.
The equipment will also be used during other Cub Scout summer camps and day camps, as well as at recruiting events, community outreach programs and school partnerships throughout the year. By equipping volunteers with portable gear, they can reach youth in both urban centers and rural areas without the need for permanent range infrastructure. All the Council’s archery programming is conducted under the supervision of trained volunteers who emphasize safety, skill development and conservation ethics.
The Council’s archery events encourage early development of outdoor interests and reinforce the values of responsible recreation. RMEF’s support helps introduce new generations to the importance of wildlife, habitat stewardship and ethical outdoor participation, thereby promoting our hunting heritage.
