Elk NetworkHunting Helps Fill Freezer during Pandemic

Nobody knew a pandemic was coming when a member of the George family in eastern Saskatchewan harvested a bull moose last November, but that successful hunt proved to be extremely important.

“It’s a lot of hard work to get out all the meat and prepare it properly,” Jill George told the Saskatoon StarPhoenix. “I think it goes a long way.”

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, a moose provides about 950 pounds of processed meat. The George family distributed the meat among themselves and fellow members of the English River First Nation, some of which suffer from food insecurity.

“This is how I identify with my culture — hunting and fishing,” added George.
