Elk NetworkCWD in Farmed Elk Triggers Emergency Measures in Oklahoma

Conservation | April 29, 2019

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry (ODAFF) and Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) are implementing emergency measures to monitor and protect wildlife after an elk from a game farm tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

It happened in Lincoln County just north and east of Oklahoma City.

A two-year-old bull died of an injury and a post-death examination confirmed the positive result.

The only other CWD case was also on a game farm back in 1998.

ODAFF quarantined the farm and ODWC will test wild deer in the area for the presence of CWD.
