The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation contributed funding toward a project spearheaded by the Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) that permanently protects 160 acres of land along the popular Middle Cottonwood Trail in southwest Montana.

The trail, located approximately six miles from downtown Bozeman, bisects what was private land said to be considered for development. GVLT and its partners worked with a landowner to purchase the property that is surrounded on three sides by land managed by the U.S. Forest Service.

GVLT plans to convey the 160 acres to the U.S. Service in the coming years.
