A young bull elk can see again after a wildlife officer removed part of a volleyball net tangled in its antlers. It happened in Evergreen, Colorado, about 20 miles west of Denver.
The netting was wound so tightly around the base of the animal’s antlers that it hung over its eyes. Officer Scott Murdoch could not get close enough to remove the netting so he tranquilized the bull and removed part of an antler as well.
“Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) urges residents to take down equipment and yard toys when they are not in use that cause problems for wildlife,” Jason Clay, CPW spokesman, told KCNC-TV. “It’s common for deer, elk and even moose to get tangled in hammocks, volleyball nets, swing sets, tire swings, clothes lines, yard decorations, garden fencing, tomato cages, buckets, etc. Those items should be stored for the winter or covered and secured in a manner where wildlife cannot get caught in them.”
