General | July 21, 2021

One decade after the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation assisted with the successful restoration of wild, free-ranging elk to their historic Virginia range, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) announced its first-ever managed elk hunt.

It will take place within Virginia’s Elk Management Zone in 2022. Interested individuals can apply for a special elk hunting license for the Elk Management Zone beginning February 2022. Further information will be posted on the DWR’s website by December 2021.

Since 1993, RMEF and its partners completed 81 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects with a combined value of more than $2 million that enhanced 1,439 acres of habitat.
