The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) confirmed the presence of a wolf within its state borders for the first time since 1922. Officials determined a wolf from the Shasta Pack in northern California wandered into the state in early November of 2016. A subsequent investigation found scat of a single animal was a male offspring from the pack. The animal is no longer in Nevada.

“While we have had a number of reports of wolves over the years, primarily in northeastern Nevada,” said Brian Wakeling, NDOW game chief. “This observation is of a lone animal and is not confirmation of wolves with established territories in Nevada.”
