Conservation | April 17, 2019

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation joined the 11 other members of the Montana Association of Land Trusts (MALT) for the seventh “Land Trust Day at the Capitol” on April 11, 2019. Land trusts set up exhibits and hosted a lunch in the Capitol Rotunda to educate legislators about their priorities, including Senate Bill 24 (Sen. Terry Gauthier, R-Helena) to create the trails and recreational facilities account and grant program.

Participants received recognition in the House and Senate chambers and met with Montana Governor Steve Bullock and Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney to share recent success stories.

MALT’s mission is to promote and support excellence in private voluntary land conservation in Montana through leadership, collaboration, education and outreach. The group works with private landowners to obtain conservation easements that maintain working farms and ranches, protect water quality, protect wildlife habitat, conserve open lands and retain the values that make Montana such an attractive place to live, work and recreate.
