Elk NetworkWhen and Why is Prescribed Fire Used?

Conservation | November 27, 2017

Land managers use prescribed fire in a “mosaic” fashion. In other words, the idea is to burn small areas at different times to create a ‘mosaic’ of zones. A diverse landscape will encourage a diversity of wildlife.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is a proponent of applying prescribed fire to the landscape as a benefit for wildlife habitat and overall forest health.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, in conjunction with RMEF and the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, produced a series of informational videos to highlight the importance of prescribed burning.
