Elk NetworkHow To Make Elk Sounds

Hunting | June 7, 2017

There is no greater sound than that of a big bull bugling and if you are like me, you are already counting down the days until archery elk season opens. Now is the time to either begin to learn how to call elk or simply brush up on your elk calling skills.

Elk have a very broad spectrum of sounds that they make and you need to be able to replicate those sounds. After all, the elk are talking to you. As a caller, you are in the woods to tell them a story and it is up to you to be convincing with your story telling, may it be that you are a herd of cows or a challenging bull.

If you are inexperienced at using a diaphragm call you may need some help learning how to control airflow and tongue pressure over the diaphragm in order to create the octave changes needed to become at replicating both cow and bull sounds.

If you are not sure where to start, Rockie Jacobsen of Rocky Mountain Hunting Calls and I have created the below video to help you get started making your first elk sounds. The video shows how to use an elk diaphragm, how to make those first sounds and the basics of putting it all together.
