Elk Hoof Disease Facility Receives First Elk for Research

Elk S19 is the first elk calf acquired by Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine for its Elk Hoof Disease Research Program.

It arrived on the Pullman campus in late November where it went into isolation. Since then, it received a clean bill of health after undergoing a complete examination.

A licensed rehabilitation specialist bottle-raised the five-month-old bull after it was orphaned near Mt. Rainier.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation donated a $100,000 grant to assist with construction of the research facility.
