Firefighters respond to all kinds of situations. Rescuing an elk stuck in a fence is a little outside the norm but that’s exactly what the Pine-Strawberry fire department recently did.

It happened in remove Pine, Arizona, located about 100 miles north of Phoenix in the remote Tonto National Forest. According to the Payson Roundup, a cow elk tried to squeeze through a slender fence opening, got stuck and then laid on the ground with exhaustion.

Firefighters used some ingenuity and some muscle to lift the animal’s hind end above the fence. It eventually wandered off into the woods.
