Elk NetworkBass Pro Shops & Cabela’s – Rounding Up for Conservation

Conservation , Gear 101 | May 13, 2020

When you round up for conservation, it adds up in a big way.

The Outdoor Fund empowers passionate Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s customers to advance conservation by rounding up their purchases to support leading organizations like the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which puts that money to work. Thanks to the generosity of its customers, the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has helped RMEF open and enhance more than 90,000 acres of critical habitat for hunting and fishing.

Places like….

Falls Creek in western Montana, which opened up 27,000 acres to public access.

Charcoal Creek in northwest Nebraska, which added 1,520 acres to the Peterson Wildlife Management Area—prime habitat for elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep.

A 24-acre acquisition in southcentral Colorado improved access to 8,500 acres.

It’s not just about adding acres. Great elk need thriving habitat and the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund and RMEF are dedicated to improving habitat for elk and a myriad of other wildlife.

Take the Bruneau-Owyhee Sagebrush Habitat Project in southwest Idaho. Here, sagebrush communities have been impacted by conifer encroachment, which impacts sage grouse, as well as elk, mule deer and pronghorn. This project treated more than 37,000 acres to enhance wildlife habitat.

And most recently in Kentucky on the Daniel Boone National Forest, a grant from the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund is helping managers improve forest health by thinning dense stands of hardwoods.

In the last three years alone, the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has enabled the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to conserve, enhance and improve access to tens of thousands of acres.
