They came from far and wide to gather in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s backyard, so to speak. Lawmakers from across the nation met November 29-December 2, 2022, in snowy Bozeman for the 19th annual National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) Sportsman-Legislator Summit. The gathering is the only national conference for state legislators dedicated to advancing America’s hunting, fishing, recreational shooting and trapping heritage.

“Legislators from either party that have a direct connection and appreciation for hunting and wildlife management are becoming rarer, which leads to a plethora of problems when issues of animal rights, trapping and traditional wildlife management come up at state capitols,” said Ryan Bronson, RMEF director of government affairs. “Helping sportsmen and sportswomen policymakers be effective is a key reason that the NASC exists, and the annual conference gives RMEF a chance to advocate for our issues with legislators from across the country.”

RMEF Director of Wildlife and Habitat Karie Decker (center of photo) and Director of Lands and Access Jennifer Doherty also attended and took part in meetings, one-on-one discussions and panel presentations about active forest management, hunting, conservation, relationships between sportsmen and landowners, elk, predator management and wilderness designations.

RMEF keeps in constant contact with lawmakers, state wildlife agencies, federal natural resource agencies and others who deal with issues that impact RMEF’s mission.
