Elk NetworkA New Mexico RMEF Giant Passes

John C. Hoffman, was born on November 14, 1945 at St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To say John was involved with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is an understatement. He was an active member of RMEF for over 30 years serving as the Albuquerque Chapter Chair for two years, State Chair for four years and Regional Chair for six. He became an Imperial Habitat Partner in 2017, a Sponsor member and a life member.

At a very young age John knew that life was not going to be a spectator sport. His childhood taught him to be a hard worker and that carried on to every aspect of his life. John’s passion meant he’d never miss a chance to raise some money and would often say we are doing it for elk and elk habitat but remind us that it was really for the kids, which are our future. John had two grandsons that he loved dearly, and they gave him new energy every day.

John would travel across the state as well as Texas and Arizona sharing his knowledge with other chapters. He was a consummate volunteer and would be first in line when a chapter needed help of a fill in auctioneer or emcee. His actions were infectious, and he worked very hard helping each chapter be the best they could be.

He loved elk and the great lands they lived in. But harvesting one was not as important as just being amongst them. Even though a juicy tenderloin was always a great way to end the hunt.

John will be missed, but his energy lives on within all of us that he touched.
