Elk Network2017 Arkansas Elk Permit Application Period Open

Hunting | May 9, 2017

The period to apply for an elk permit in the state of Arkansas runs from May 1-June 1, 2017. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AFGC) expects to issue 26 permits, the same number is issued in 2016.

“We have objectives as to how many elk, particularly cow elk, should be removed each year to maintain healthy populations and prevent more expansion of the elk herd,” Brad Carner, AFGC chief of wildlife management, told the Log Cabin Democrat. “Hunting is the best method to control those numbers.”

Beginning this year, applying for an elk permit will include a nonrefundable $5 fee.
