Scientists are using more and more motion-activated field cameras to assist with their research.
“There’s no doubt — it is an incredible tool to acquire data on wildlife,” Grant Harris, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wildlife biologist, told the Seattle Times.
The director of the Wyoming Migration Initiative, funded in part by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, uses crews to deploy remove cameras and global positioning to monitor the movements of elk and other wildlife in and out of Yellowstone National Park. Matthew Kauffman says the cameras help scientists determine how many animals are on the move and where they go.
