There’s nothing like seeing an elk in the wild. Just ask a large group of boys and girls attending a California Waterfowl camp in central California. And the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation was excited to help make it happen.

Thanks to the generous support of the California Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation we’ve been able to provide field trips for all of our youth campers this summer. Nearly 200 campers have been or will be able to get up-close looks at the tule elk population at Grizzly Island Wildlife Area.
Through guided bus and walking tours they’ve learned about the history of the elk in California — there was believed to be only one breeding pair left alive back in the 1870’s — while also checking out all the other wildlife in the marsh.
